Photobio modulation benefits in sports

Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMt) employs low-level light to influence cellular activity and enhance the biological functions of tissues and cells. The therapy activates mitochondria, prompting a cascade of physiological changes, notably the increase in Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) production. Muscular tissue, which contains a higher concentration of mitochondria per cellular unit than other tissues or organs, responds more rapidly to Photobiomodulation due to its higher ATP requirements. This makes PBMt particularly beneficial in sports by boosting energy production during physical activities and accelerating recovery after exercise. Clinical trials have consistently linked increased ATP production with enhancements in muscle performance, fat loss, and endurance.

Research also indicates that Photobiomodulation can promote cell proliferation, stimulate metabolism, reduce inflammation, and facilitate tissue healing. The effectiveness of PBMt largely depends on the dosage applied to the tissue; while low doses can trigger substantial cellular responses, excessively high doses may suppress cell proliferation and even lead to apoptosis (cell death).
